JST Lake House
Muskoka, Ontario
Set lightly on the Canadian Shield, this Lake Rosseau cottage traces the land rather than sits upon it—its long, low profile extending with the granite’s natural grade. A composition of stone, wood, and metal, the architecture is defined by restraint: horizontal datum lines, a continuous clerestory, and a quiet material palette that weathers into the landscape. Conceived as a retreat, it offers a sense of stillness—an architecture of pause, proportion, and light.
Built for a rare, expansive site, the project embraces openness while maintaining intimacy—framing views, filtering light, and grounding itself in the elemental character of the north.
