Our Approach
We are interested in buildings that have depth — in their facades, their proportions, their relationship to light and material. We believe a building's surface should reward close observation, that materials should age honestly, and that restraint often communicates more than abundance. This philosophy applies whether we're designing a family home, a multi-unit residence, or a commercial space. The scale changes. The rigor doesn't.
We collaborate closely with our clients to understand not only what a building needs to do, but how it should endure — functionally, materially, and in the minds of people who inhabit it.
The Practice
Micacchi Architecture is a Toronto-based practice, established in 2017, working across residential, multi-unit, and select commercial projects. We are drawn to work that demonstrates proportional clarity, careful detailing, and material honesty — buildings that sit thoughtfully within their context.
The practice is led by Robert Micacchi, who studied architecture at the University of Waterloo and was awarded the Rome Prize upon graduation. He began his career in London, Vancouver, and Toronto, working with practices known for rigorous design thinking, before founding the studio.
Methods
We use advanced building information modelling and visualization tools to support an iterative design process. This allows us to study how light, proportion, and material detail evolve throughout a project. Where appropriate, we incorporate high-performance building strategies, including Passive House principles, to ensure long-term comfort and environmental responsibility without compromising design intent.
